President, Apex Restaurant Group

Mark currently serves as the president of  Apex Restaurant Group, the world’s first management contract firm operating restaurant chains for other owners. He concurrently serves as Chairman of Maven Capital Fund, an investor focused on the restaurant industry. Targeting small to mid-sized restaurant chains, Maven invests across the spectrum of restaurant strategies including fast-casual, QSR or casual dining.

Prior to joining Apex and Maven, Mark served as Chairman of Metromedia Restaurant Group, a privately held company which owns and operates over 850 restaurants under the Bennigan’s®, Steak & Ale®, Ponderosa® and Bonanza® brands. He is the former President of Apogee Hospitality Group as well as President and CEO of East Side Mario’s Restaurants, which he grew from one restaurant in 1988 to 30 in 1993 when it was sold to PepsiCo.

Mark has been the founder and president of a number of international casual dining restaurant chains including Mr. Greenjeans, Ginsberg & Wong and Lime Rickey’s. He was President of Prime Restaurant Group, the largest privately held casual restaurant chain in Canada. He has also serves on the Board of Directors of several investment management and restaurant companies, including Quiznos. A former Chairman of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association as well as a past director of the National Restaurant Association, Mark remains highly involved in foodservice education as a curriculum advisor and guest lecturer at Cornell, The University of Denver, the Culinary Institute of America, Michigan State University and The University of Guelph (Ontario).

Mark holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Cornell University.
